BERGSAITEN – International Summer Academy in Neuberg an der Mürz
July 13th to 19th, 2026
Dear Musicians,
The International Summer Academy BERGSAITEN is entering its second edition and will take place from July 13–19 as part of the Neuberger Kulturtage.
Set in the inspiring mountain landscape of Neuberg, BERGSAITEN offers young instrumentalists an intensive and creative environment for artistic growth and musical exchange. In this special atmosphere, we aim to foster motivation, curiosity, and individual artistic development.
Participants will have the opportunity to engage deeply with their personal musical questions, technical challenges, and interpretative approaches—while also drawing fresh energy from the powerful natural surroundings. “It is far too beautiful here!” Johannes Brahms once wrote about this region, where he composed, among other works, his Fourth Symphony.
This year, we are delighted to welcome the following faculty members, all of whom teach at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz (Kunstuniversität Graz):
A special highlight will be a workshop with the extraordinary duo BartolomeyBittmann, focusing on extended playing techniques, creative sound exploration, and improvisation—broadening the spectrum of classical instrumental performance and encouraging new forms of artistic expression.
In addition to work on solo repertoire and chamber music, participants will engage in intensive ensemble sessions, creating music “string to string” alongside the faculty.
Neuberg is not only a place for focused artistic work, but also a space for encounter, inspiration, and spontaneous musical exchange. Numerous house concerts in extraordinary venues create an intimate connection between music, audience, and landscape, giving the week its distinctive character.
We look forward to many inspiring encounters in Neuberg—with resonating strings and radiant mountains.
